Fluor to Build Chemical Plant in Runcorn
This award follows completion of the front-end engineering earlier this year. Fluor also is the overall project manager working with an integrated team of engineers from Uhde GmbH of Dortmund, Germany, and INEOS Chlor. Engineering is under way at Fluor's office in Haarlem, the Netherlands. The facility is due for completion in November 2005 and will be the first chlorine plant to use INEOS Chlor's proprietary new Electrolyser technology, BiChlor. INEOS Chlor is one of the major chlor-alkali producers in Europe and a global leader in chlorine derivatives. Constructed on a brown-field site at the Runcorn complex, the plant will produce approximately 400,000 tons of chlorine annually. The new facility will include brine treatment, electrolyses, chlorine drying and liquefaction, hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite syntheses, storage, loading and utilities. Fluor has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract by INEOS Chlor for a new chlor-alkali plant to be built at the company's manufacturing complex in Runcorn, Cheshire. The value of the contract to Fluor is $200m.
