AMEC Grows Environmental Business in Europe with Acquisition
AMEC has further expanded its environmental services capabilities in Europe with the acquisition AGRARO Consult, based in Bucharest, Romania.
AGRARO provides environmental assessment, investigation, planning, engineering and monitoring services for clients in the public and private sectors. It has a strong roster of scientists and engineers and has particular experience in the mining and oil and gas sectors.
The acquisition will enhance AMEC's position in the Romanian and Eastern European environmental market. AGRARO will join AMEC's Earth and Environmental business in Europe, which operates from offices in Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Kaiserslautern, Milan, Rotterdam and Seville.
"The combination of AGRARO's excellent credentials in Romania with AMEC's growing presence in Europe is a great match for both parties," said Tim Conley, vice president in charge of AMEC's Earth & Environmental business in Europe. "This acquisition fits our strategy of expanding our European capability to serve our multinational clients with in-country staff who are familiar with local and European standards."
AGRARO's managing director, Stefania Chiriac, will continue as AMEC's managing director of Romanian operations. AGRARO enjoys strong relationships with mining, oil and gas and government clients as well as international financial institutions (World Bank, International Monetary Funds and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development).
Current projects range from a soil and groundwater investigation for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Constanta, Romania to environmental impact assessments for OMV Petrom, the largest investor in oil and gas infrastructure in Romania, and for the Rosia Montana Gold Corporation proposed gold mine in western Transylvania, the largest such mine in Europe.
