Mott MacDonald is Engineering Adviser on Wind Farm Project in China
Mott MacDonald has been acting as Engineering Adviser to Honiton Energy, China for two of its new wind farms located in Inner Mongolia.
Mott MacDonald's team of professionals is providing construction supervision as well as above-ground civil engineering design and reviews. In addition, their role on the project, valued at several £s;million, includes quality and safety monitoring, environmental guidance as well as providing advice on any other technical issues that may arise.
The wind farms are located in areas that have high winds and once operational will provide a total of up to 100MW of renewable electricity to serve China's growing infrastructure and help reduce electricity shortages as well as carbon emissions. The Wind turbines are about 104m from ground to tip in height. Scope of the substations include a metrological mast, temporary/ permanent access roads, crane hardstands, 35KV Switchgear, 220KVA transformer and circuit breakers with controls and SCADA for remote access and control of the wind turbine.
The first wind farm site has been completed and is for the town of BaiLingMaio (BLM) and located about 30km north-west of the town in the middle of the Inner Mongolian Grasslands. The project scope comprised a 50MW wind farm with a 220KVA substation linked by a 220KV transmission line towards the State Grid and is powered by forty 1.25MW wind turbine generators.
The second phase or site is still under construction and also comprises a 50MW wind farm just north of the first site with forty 1.25MW wind turbine generators. This wind farm network will share the same substation as the phase 1 network.
Ong Fook Sin, Mott MacDonald's project director said, "We are delighted to be selected as Engineering Adviser by Honiton Energy for this prestigious wind farm programme. The environment with its open terrain and weather on-site can be very harsh - sand storms are common during May to July and there are regular snow storms during winter with temperatures as low as minus 48 degrees centigrade - making civil works a challenge for both people and machines. However Mott MacDonald is among the world's leading Technical Advisers on wind farm projects and we have now completed the first site with the second phase well under way."
is a growing foreign alternative energy provider. It is 100% foreign-owned but locally managed in China.
