Wood Group To Provide Offshore Commissioning Solutions to BHP Billiton on Angostura Brownfield Project, Offshore Trinidad

Wood Group Wood Group has been selected by BHP Billiton to provide commissioning services for the Angostura brownfield gas export expansion project, offshore Trinidad. Work will be performed by DSI, Wood Group's commissioning services business.

The Angostura field is being expanded with a gas export platform that will be linked to existing oil facilities. DSI's commissioning scope includes development of the commissioning plan and schedule, functional test procedures, the site materials control plan, permit-to-work management system, commissioning control and reporting process, the proprietary commissioning certification system (CCMS) as well as field execution of all commissioning activities.

DSI will work with the construction team to coordinate mechanical completion activities and documentation for the integrated topsides platform, jacket and piles, which are being fabricated in Morgan City, Louisiana. Pre-commissioning and commissioning activities will be conducted on site in Morgan City before offshore integration. Final functional and dynamic testing will occur offshore Trinidad by DSI prior to start-up and first product, expected during the first half of 2011.

"We look forward to bringing our experienced staff and outstanding safety record to work on another project with BHP Billiton, for whom we have already commissioned the Shenzi and Neptune platforms in the Gulf of Mexico," said Trey Lambert, president of DSI. "The Angostura project will continue to demonstrate our proven commissioning expertise and mechanical completions and certification processes in brownfield projects."

Deepwater Specialists Inc. (DSI) is one of the world's leading providers of facilities commissioning services to the international oil and gas industry. DSI provides function checks and proves the integrity of all systems after construction is completed and prior to the introduction of hydrocarbons. DSI has provided offshore commissioning of 26 deepwater and offshore facilities since being founded in 1998, while maintaining one of the industry's most outstanding safety records.

Commissioning is a key stage that is critical to meeting performance goals right from the start of any project. Commissioning helps demonstrate the integrity of operating and safety systems and aids to protect assets and personnel, mitigate start-up risks, and avoid cost and schedule overruns.

The Angostura field is located approximately 24 miles east of the Trinidad coast in approximately 130 feet of water.
