Mott MacDonald Opens Uganda Office

Mott MacDonald Mott MacDonald, the global management, engineering and development consultancy has opened an East Africa office in Kampala, Uganda to support development across the region. Mott MacDonald already has a strong presence in Uganda through its established portfolio of transportation, water, environment, health and education projects, as well as providing aid for local initiatives through its community support programme.

Guy Leonard, Mott MacDonald's Group Board Director speaking at the official opening in Kampala on 21 September 2010 said:

"Mott MacDonald has been in Africa for over 100 years. By opening this office in Kampala, we aim to further strengthen our local presence in East Africa and use this opportunity to expand sectors of our business such as power, oil and gas technical design and consultancy services as well as build on those already established in Africa. This move supports our business model to provide local support and knowledge to our clients on the ground backed by our world class expertise."

Across Africa Mott MacDonald has projects in some 39 countries spanning most aspects of infrastructure from roads, rail and bus routes to satellite mobile communication to water and buildings. Across the continent the company is involved in health projects, helping the fight against disease and environmental degradation while in the water sector it is designing sustainable sanitation and water management strategies to improve the aquatic health of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake.

In the power sector the company is working on such projects as power systems in Libya, power related telecoms in Botswana and smart grid strategy work in South Africa. Also in South Africa, the company is involved in a major capital expansion programme which Transnet embarked on to upgrade all nine of the country's port freight terminals and railway freight lines. Mott MacDonald helped design the landmark Mbombela Stadium, a 43,500 seat venue that hosted first round matches in the 2010 World Cup. In Nigeria Mott MacDonald is supporting federal and state governments to make sustainable improvements in basic education services as part of the Education Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN).
