Job Losses as Eni Plans to Consolidate UK Operations
Eni UK, the Italian owned oil & gas company, plans to consolidate UK operations in London and close in Aberdeen. Up to 60 jobs could be lost at the company, formerly Agip UK, which employs 163 at its Redmoss base in Aberdeen and 38 in London.
Around 50 of the 163 employed in Aberdeen have been offered jobs by Canadian Natural Resources, which in May announced the acquisition of Eni's operated interests in six North Sea fields.
While 53 posts will be moved to London, the remaining 60 in Aberdeen will be made redundant, although Eni says it will seek to redeploy people in those posts to other parts of its worldwide operations. Relocation assistance will be offered to 63 staff whose posts are affected and who want to move south. They will also be given the option of voluntary severance.
As a result of an organisational study, which has included interviews with members of staff, Eni stated there were two options - to close the Aberdeen office or rationalise both Aberdeen and London. The company's ultimate decision was to consolidate its UK based exploration and production and oil and gas activities in London to improve business effectiveness.
The closure process is expected to take place over the next nine months.
