Pay Dispute on BP's Clair Platform

Around 100 offshore contractors have downed tools on BP's Clair platform in a pay dispute.

The Amec and Rigblast contractors withdrew labour after a promise to give them guaranteed overtime payments was withdrawn. BP confirmed an issue had arisen concerning overtime pay, but added this was being dealt with by Amec and Rigblast, who had given a commitment to keep BP informed.

Amec have sent a representative, but could not say anything further until discussions have taken place. No comment was made regarding the number of Amec contractors involved in the dispute. A spokeswoman for Rigblast said the company had mobilised a manager in support of Amec to discuss the issue with the workers and are waiting for feedback.

It is understood the workers taking action have assured management that essential safety procedures will continue to be carried out.
