Foster Wheeler Awarded Contract for Petrochemicals Complex

Foster Wheeler LogoFoster Wheeler Energy, UK, has been awarded a program management services contract by Eastern Petrochemical Company (SHARQ) for the expansion of SHARQ's existing petrochemicals complex known as the SHARQ 3rd Expansion Project to be located at Jubail Industrial City, Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

SHARQ is a joint venture between Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and Saudi Petrochemical Development Corp. Contractors Unlimited has not been informed of the contract value.

The expansion of the existing petrochemicals complex will include the following units. A grassroots 1,300 kta ethylene cracker, a 800 kta polyethylene plant, a 600 kta ethylene glycol plant and associated offsites and utilities.

Foster Wheeler's scope of work as Program Management Contractor will include the preparation of front-end engineering design and preparation and issue of invitations to bid for each of the process units, including bid evaluation and award recommendations for engineering, procurement and construction contractors. Foster Wheeler will also manage all EPC contractors and provide the overall management, coordination and control of all phases of the program.

Mechanical completion is expected in early 2008.
