Shell North Sea Contractors To Get Two Weeks' Paid Leave
Shell's UK North Sea contractors are to receive an extra two weeks' paid leave.
Greg Hill, production director of Shell E&P Europe, said: "In the North Sea, Shell has always aimed to be the employer of choice for our offshore workforce. However we face an increasingly competitive environment, which means that we must constantly review our terms and conditions to ensure that they are line with our aspirations and the aspirations of our people. As a result, we are pleased to advise that we have agreed with our primary contractors in the UK sector of the North Sea, to provide an additional 14 days' leave from platform duty, per annum, for all eligible contractor staff. This will not affect their annual pay."
Mr Hill said it was planned to introduce the additional two-week leave period for all eligible contractor staff during the first half of 2005, beginning with Sigma 3 and Universal Sodexho staff.
All primary contractors working for the firm would benefit, including those involved in catering and drilling.
Jake Molloy, OILC union General Secretary commented that all offshore workers should be entitled to four weeks' paid leave under the Working Time Directive. The industry norm for contractors on installations is two weeks on, two weeks off with no extra paid leave.
Talisman already provides two weeks' paid leave to its main contractors.
