BP Seek Government Go-ahead for North Sea Pipeline
BP has applied to the Government for authorisation for a system of pipelines to allow Rhum to come on stream. The £350 million development is one of the largest untapped gas fields in the North Sea. Gas is scheduled to start flowing in the last quarter of 2005.
Rhum will be linked by a subsea tieback to the BP operated Bruce platform, around 30 miles away, with gas being sent to St Fergus using the Frigg pipeline. The development includes new gas-processing facilities which were installed on the Bruce installation during the summer.
Key contractors for the pipeline work, due to start in March include: Amec and JP Kenny for design and project management; Saipem UK for main pipelay; and Technip Offshore UK for subsea construction.
BP has 50 per cent of Rhum and is the field operator. The other 50 per cent is owned by the Iranian Oil Co.
