AMEC Awarded Gas Contract by Scottish and Southern Energy
AMEC has been awarded a £53 million contract to design and deliver a new gas storage facility at Aldbrough near Hornsea, East Yorkshire for Scottish and Southern Energy.
AMEC will undertake the design, engineering, procurement and installation of the Central Processing Area process plant, including three 20-megawatt compressors, controls, instrumentation and supporting infrastructure to enable the plant to be operated remotely from an existing facility approximately 10 miles away.
Engineering design is being carried out at AMEC's Darlington operations centre. On-site operations will begin in May 2005 with first gas expected on stream by December 2006. Overall completion of the Central Processing Area is scheduled for July 2007.
"Gas imports to the UK will continue to increase as North Sea reserves decrease and gas storage will become increasingly important in maintaining supplies," said Steve Lee, managing director of AMEC's industrial business.
AMEC's current onshore gas-related contracts include:
:: A £50 million contract with Star Energy HG Gas Storage Ltd for develop and construction manage a gas storage plant and pipeline at Humbly Grove, Hampshire, UK, which will enable Star Energy to compress gas supplied from the National Transmission System and store it, for future use at the existing Humbly Grove oil field. After storage, the gas will be treated to remove impurities such as water and liquid hydrocarbons.
:: Engineering, procurement and construction of gas processing plant in Cheshire for Energy Merchants Gas Storage (UK) Limited. EMGS owns and operates a natural gas storage facility in Cheshire. AMEC is installing a 10-megawatt compressor, associated process plant, pipelines and control systems to boost gas compression within the facility.
:: A £48 million contract for the design and delivery of a gas compression station at Bathgate, near Edinburgh, for Transco National Transmission and Trading, as part of an on-going enhancement of the UK's gas transmission system.
:: A £12 million contract in consortium with Black and Veatch to design and deliver a new liquefaction plant at National Grid Transco's Glenmavis Liquefied Natural Gas facility in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
