Jacobs Awarded Framework Consultantancy in Northern Ireland
A Jacobs Engineering Group subsidiary has received a framework contract from the Department for Regional Development (DRD), Water Service, Northern Ireland, to support the organization's $380 million annual capital investment program.
DRD Water Service, a public sector utility, provides water treatment and supply; and sewage collection, treatment, and disposal for Northern Ireland's 1.7 million people (700,000 households).
As one of a number of providers, Jacobs will offer expert services including project management, feasibility studies, site supervision, hydraulic modeling, and business economics. The framework arrangement allows DRD Water Service to draw on Jacobs' expertise over the three year duration of the contract, which may be extended at the end of this initial period.
From 2005-2008, DRD Water Service, with assistance from the Strategic Investment Board in Northern Ireland, is investing over $1.2 billion to upgrade their water and sewerage infrastructure. To accelerate delivery of this huge capital investment, Water Service has introduced innovative frameworks to develop strategic partnerships with suppliers throughout the water industry to harness skills and expertise from the earliest stages of project inception.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Bill Mitchell said, "We are pleased to continue our successful relationship with DRD Water Service. This framework continues to build on our successes in the Northern Ireland water sector over the past 10 years and reinforces our commitment to the utilities sector in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland."
