Eni Sign Framework Agreement for Damietta Gas Liquefaction Plant
Eni has signed a framework agreement for the expansion of the Damietta gas liquefaction plant, located North-West of Port Said. The construction of a second train will pave the way for future exploration and development of new fields in Egypt, that are expected to produce gas for both the domestic and international markets. This will also boost new exploration and development activities related to the Nile Delta deepwater fields to produce more gas in Egypt.
The second train at Damietta will have a treatment capacity of 7.6 billion cubic metres of gas per year for 20 years, doubling the capacity of the current plant.
A company dedicated to the realisation of the facility will be established in partnership with Eni, Union Fenosa, SEGAS (Spanish Egyptian Gas Company), BP, Egas and EGPC.
The agreement will bring Damietta to increasingly play the role of gas hub in the Mediterranean basin, thus representing a significant step towards diversifying gas supply sources.
These new development plans are the best way to celebrate Eni's 50-year collaboration with Egypt's authorities and oil companies.
