E.ON UK Signs Contract for Cambridgeshire Wind Farm
The Stag's Holt Wind Farm has been given the green light after developer E.ON UK signed a major contract. The £13.6m turbine supply contract will be carried out by Vestas Celtic Wind Technology, which is based at Campbeltown in Argyll & Bute.
The scheme will see a total of nine Vestas V80 turbines sited at Stag's Holt, near March in Cambridgeshire. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 18MW, or enough to power the equivalent of 11,000 homes.
Jason Scagell, Director of E.ON UK Renewables, said: "We're delighted to have signed this agreement with Vestas. This is a major step forward in the development of Stag's Holt Wind Farm and we expect to begin work in the autumn, with completion targeted for autumn next year.
"The scheme will also help us to meet the Government's challenging green power targets, which were recently highlighted in the Energy Review."
The July 2006 Energy Review calls for 20% of the UK's electricity to come from renewable sources by 2020.
E.ON UK is one of the largest renewable generators in the UK. It has stakes in 20 wind farms across the country, is co-firing biomass alongside coal at two of its power stations and owns the largest hydro power station in England and Wales.
