E.ON UK Applies To Build Haswell Moor Wind Farm

E.ON logoE.ON UK, the company that runs Powergen, has applied to Easington District Council for permission to build a £12.5m wind farm to the west of Haswell village.

The application calls for five 2.5MW turbines to be built on farmland near the village. The turbines would be up to 110m to the tip of the highest blade and could produce enough power for around 7,000 homes.

Matt Pinfield, Project Developer for the scheme, said: "We think this is a cracking place for a wind farm but, more importantly, it'll displace more than 28,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

"That's why wind farms such as Haswell Moor are an important weapon in the battle against climate change and we're right at the forefront of that battle with plans to spend £1bn on green generation over the next five years."

If permission is granted for the wind farm, E.ON UK would use local contractors wherever feasible in its construction.
