Weatherford Forecast 500 New Jobs
Oil services group Weatherford have forecast a possible 500 new jobs being created in the next five years. The company currently employs around 1,800 people throughout the UK, 1,000 of them in Aberdeen, potentially increasing by more than 50% by the end of 2011.
Weatherford is spending £19million on the first part of a four-phase development on a 20-acre site at Altens. This will include a new UK North Sea headquarters.
The group has around 20 facilities throughout Aberdeen and the plan is to move most of those to the new site. The European and West African HQ will remain at Dyce.
Several oil and gas companies plan to move into new offices in the north-east of Scotland. Last month, American oil services giant Halliburton revealed plans to invest around £20million in a new North Sea headquarters at Dyce. Subsea 7 said in October that it is to relocate 850 staff to a new HQ at Westhill, while work is progressing at BP's new base at Dyce, and Shell recently secured planning consent to build a £25million block at Tullos.
Morrison Construction started work on Weatherford's new base at Altens yesterday, with all four phases expected to be completed by the middle of 2008.
