E.ON Builds Modern CCGT Plant In Hungary

E.ON logoE.ON will build a modern, environmentally sound combined-cycle gas turbine plant in the Hungarian city of Gönyü. The plant is expected to come on stream in 2010 with a capacity of 400 megawatts. With an efficiency of 58 percent, Gönyü will be one of the world's most efficient power plants and meet the most stringent environmental standards. The investment for the power plant will amount to € 270 million. In addition, it will be possible to double the capacity of the plant to 800 megawatts later on.

The Gönyü power plant will help to consolidate E.ON's market position in Central and Eastern Europe. The company already holds a strong position in electricity sales, which it will now back up by building up its own generation capacity. The gas required for generating electricity will be supplied by E.ON Földgáz Trading. This means that the E.ON Group will be using its strengths as an integrated power and gas company to improve the security of supply in Hungary.
