Jacobs Receives Borealis Contract for Polymer Facility in Germany

Jacobs LogoA Jacobs Engineering Group subsidiary company has received a contract from Borealis to provide engineering, design, and construction management services for a polymer production facility in Burghausen, Germany which is scheduled for commissioning in 2007.

The 330 kton/a facility will use Borealis' proprietary Borstar(R) technology to produce polypropylene. Borealis is Europe's second largest manufacturer of plastics and a global leader in the industry. The Burghausen location is part of the firm's Hub Central Europe, one of four hubs that Borealis operates in Europe.

Jacobs is executing the work from its office in Leiden, the Netherlands, in collaboration with their affiliate, Neste Jacobs, in Porvoo, Finland. Neste Jacobs is the largest engineering contractor in Finland serving the oil refining, petrochemicals, and chemicals markets.

Thomas Abel, General Manager Borealis Central Europe, said, "As envisioned, the additional Borstar polypropylene capacity will enable Borealis to further develop its leading position in providing value creating plastic solutions for the fast-growing and innovative advanced packaging market."

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Andy Kremer stated, "We are very pleased that Borealis selected us for this critical project as we continue to extend our relationship. This facility represents an important expansion of Borealis' Borstar production in Europe and we are proud to play a major role in bringing it on line."
