Technip Awarded Bass Lite Development Contract

Technip LogoTechnip has been awarded a contract by Mariner Energy, Inc. for the fabrication and installation of a subsea flowline(1) and risers(2) for the Bass Lite development in the Gulf of Mexico.

The contract includes engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of a steel flowline that will tie-back subsea wells at a depth of 6,750 feet of water in Atwater Valley 426, to a steel catenary riser to be installed on the Devils Tower Spar(3) in 5,600 feet of water. Technip will also design and manufacture one Flowline End Termination (FLET), two Flowline Midline Terminations (FLMT) as well as manufacture and install the jumper(4).

Detailed engineering and project management will be performed at Technip's operations and engineering center in Houston, Texas. Assembly of the flowline and SCRs will take place at Technip's spoolbase located in Mobile, Alabama.

Offshore installation is scheduled for Q4 2007 and will be executed by Technip;s deepwater pipelay vessel Deep Blue.

(1) Flowline: a rigid or flexible pipe, laid on the seabed, which allows the transportation of oil/gas production or injection of fluids. It is generally an infield line, linking underwater structures to each other or to a fixed or floating production facility. Its length can vary from a few hundred meters to several kilometers.

(2) Riser: a pipe or assembly of flexible or rigid pipes used to transfer produced fluids from the seabed to surface facilities, and transfer injection or control fluids from the surface facilities to the seabed.

(3) Spar: a cylindrical, partially submerged offshore drilling and production platform that is particularly well adapted to deepwater.

(4) Jumper: short pipe (flexible or rigid) used to connect a flowline to a subsea structure or to connect two subsea structures located close to one another.
