AREVA Receives NRC Approval for Safety-Related Digital I&C System

AREVA today announced that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted approval for the digital Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) system upgrade of a U.S. nuclear station. AREVA is the first and only supplier to receive NRC approval for full application of a safety-related digital I&C system.
"This NRC approval represents a major milestone for the U.S. nuclear industry," said Mike Rencheck, Chief Operating Officer, AREVA Inc. "The approval is the culmination of a rigorous and systematic review process by the NRC of our global digital I&C technology (TELEPERM XSTM). Now that it is complete, a digital I&C benchmark is available for the entire nuclear industry."
The Safety-Related Digital I&C System TELEPERM XSTM is included in the design for new nuclear plants, like the EPR reactor, as well as for the upgrading and modernization of existing plants of virtually all types and from all main suppliers. Worldwide 55 units have implemented or ordered TELEPERM XSTM systems since its first installation more than 10 years ago.
