| Companies Act Implementation Timetable | 01/03/2007 |
Full implementation timetable for Companies Act 2006 announced by Industry and Regions Minister Margaret Hodge. All of the Act will be in place by October 2008 with many elements implemented earlier. The Companies Act introduces sweeping changes to simplify and improve company law making it easier to understand and more flexible - especially for small businesses. It is expected to save business up to £250 million a year and bring greater shareholder engagement and transparency.  |

Astronautics engineer Jon Jennings calls for the title of "engineer" to be a protected title. Jennings joins an escalating list of people using 10 Downing Street's online petition to call for support for his campaign to restore respect in engineers. If you agree that the status of the engineer is undervalued in society then sign the petition.  |
| Successful First Year for Emergency Service Response Centre | 20/03/2007 |
Pioneering Emergency Response Service Centre, launched in Aberdeen to serve the oil & gas industry in the North Sea, responded to 27 emergency calls in its first year of operation. The Emergency Response Service Centre (ERSC) - the only one of its kind in the UK aimed towards the oil & gas industry - has successfully handled six emergency situations since opening for operation this time last year.  |
| Treasury Accused of Turning Blind Eye to UK Oil and Gas | 22/03/2007 |
Responding to today's Budget statement, the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA), accused the Treasury of turning a blind eye to the urgent needs of the UK's offshore oil and gas industry where production is being undermined by high costs and punitive tax. Malcolm Webb, UKOOA's chief executive, said: "The Treasury clearly recognises that lower taxes are good for business, but unfortunately fails to apply that principle to our industry.  |

Shaw Group announces plans to add an additional 5,000 professionals and craft workers to its 21,000 person work force over the next 12 months. Shaw is experiencing unprecedented growth demands globally in its Power, Energy & Chemicals, and Fabrication & Manufacturing divisions. Opportunities in Power include the Fossil, Nuclear and Maintenance sectors, including coal and gas-fired power plant engineering and design, and next-generation nuclear plant engineering and design. While most positions are in the domestic market, there are also overseas opportunities.  |
| Petrofac and Babcock Create Skills Alliance | 29/03/2007 |
In what looks set to become a landmark contract in the UK, Petrofac has formed an alliance with Babcock International Group plc, which will see the heavy industry skills of employees at Rosyth also adopted for offshore employment. The pioneering initiative has been fully supported by Amicus, the largest manufacturing union in the UK, which hopes it will set a precedent across the country.  |
| Tissue Sampling of Nuclear Workers | 20/04/2007 |
Following media reports of historic tissue sampling of workers at Sellafield, UKAEA will be reviewing its records for all UKAEA sites for any relevant data. Tissue sampling of the sort described is not current in UKAEA and the review will focus on historical data.  |
| Jacobs Expresses Sympathy for Tragic Event at NASA Site | 24/04/2007 |
Jacobs Engineering employee involved in tragedy at Johnson Space Center (JSC) on Friday afternoon 20 April 2007. One of their employees shot and killed himself and a NASA employee. A second person was taken hostage but escaped.  |
| Petrofac Opens Engineering Office in Chennai | 25/04/2007 |
Petrofac opens second engineering office in India in order to support growth of its Engineering & Construction division. Located in Chennai, one of the prime industrial hubs in southern India, Petrofac Engineering Services India Limited commenced official operations on 16th April 2007 and employs close to 100 multi-discipline engineering staff with plans to double this capacity by the end of 2007.  |
